Denise’s guidance in the kindergarten application process was invaluable. As we are not NYC natives and were coming from public school, we needed a lot of direction! Denise took a holistic approach to the independent school admissions process. In addition to educating us at each step, she got to know our son and helped us make choices about the right educational environment for him. We are thrilled that he will be attending our top choice kindergarten this fall!

We won the lottery when my now 18-year-old daughter, Sabrina, was admitted to Denise Roeder’s kindergarten classroom. The fact that Ms. Roeder was, and is to this day, known to be the very best, most skilled educator goes without saying. All of the parents at the school wanted to have their children learn and grow in her classroom. Two years after Sabrina’s year in kindergarten, I urged the administration to admit my son, Jimmy. Who wins the lottery twice? We did! Again I say “we” because not only was Ms. Roeder there day and night for my young children starting elementary school, but she was always available to me and my husband as well.

As a new mom, Denise played a pivotal role in guiding and supporting my entire family throughout their education not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. She provided my children with a strong foundation of self-esteem and manners they needed to thrive in first grade and beyond. Denise helped foster a love of learning and a deep understanding of the outside world, teaching the children to be more aware of those in their community and also people outside of their little bubble. Ms. Roeder embraced and taught them about holidays of all faiths and took them to farms to show them that the foods they eat actually originate there and aren’t made in the local supermarket. She prepared my little ones for life, starting at the age of five; they were well prepared for their educational journeys thanks to her. We are eternally grateful to Denise Roeder for all that she has done for us and we couldn’t recommend her more highly.

Ms. Roeder was my son’s Kindergarten teacher at Columbia Grammar & Prep School and had a lasting impact on his education that continues to be felt to this day. She is a gifted and passionate educator who connected with my son and truly understood what kind of learner he was. Ms. Roeder created a classroom environment that was nurturing but structured and extended Brandon’s learning with confidence and experience. Her ability to celebrate each child for who they are, while recognizing their strengths and supporting their weaknesses, is one of her strongest assets. She is dedicated to helping children find the right academic setting where they will thrive and her advice has been invaluable as we’ve navigated each grade for my son. Ms. Roeder is deeply intuitive, thoughtful and attentive and strives to put each child on a path where they can achieve their fullest potential. Ms. Roeder’s ability to draw from her 30+ years of teaching experience and her fluency with a wide range of educational philosophies allow her to create learning plans tailored for each child and recommend appropriate academic styles and institutions – this combination makes her a rare treasure!

When I first met Mrs. Roeder, she was my eldest son’s K teacher. That classroom, her teaching expertise, and her guidance became the definitive transformative year for my son. Her love and concern for each one of her students was incredibly evident, and as a result her students (and their families) thrived. That was over 5 years ago and only the beginning of my relationship with this incredibly talented and intuitive professional. Once my son left her class I found myself going to Mrs. Roeder for all sorts of advice for all of my children - she swiftly helped me through the world of early intervention for my youngest, advised me on concerns about childhood social growth and connections, and helped me navigate teacher communication and relationship building with my childrens teachers. All 3 of my children love her and still ask to visit her classroom, which emanated love and warmth while fostering tremendous independence and growth. She is an indelible part of all our hearts. Mrs. Roeder is a wealth of knowledge; a true gift I cannot speak highly enough of!

Denise’s true super power is in her ability to help parents identify social and emotional needs and learning differences. The identification is only the beginning of what she has to offer. She has access to New York’s top resources in order to provide important interventional measures when necessary. She also has the ability and insight to recommend appropriate educational institutions for each child. Her kindness, innate love and understanding of children, and resources; as well as her ability to calm the frayed nerves of the parents truly make her SUPER minus the hero’s cape. I adore Denise and will forever be grateful for her love for my son and family. She, by the way, has become a dear family friend and has provided reassurance, guidance, and a strong shoulder to date.

A once-in-a-lifetime educator comes along, well, once in a lifetime. Denise Roeder is that educator. She was my son’s beloved Kindergarten teacher at one of New York’s top private schools, Columbia Grammar and Prep. She has decades of experience that is evergreen and current. In fact, she was very much ahead of the curve decades ago when she started carefully crafting and curating a curriculum that is multicultural, responsible, inclusive, and magical!

I had the privilege of working with Denise for my first year teaching Kindergarten. I was amazed and inspired by her ability to guide and support families throughout the learning process. Her knowledge of children academically, socially, and emotionally is truly outstanding; the children feel seen and understood in her presence.
